Ysios Rioja Reserva
June 24, 2018
Ysios Rioja Reserva, 2007.
Purchased at Total Wine.
A gift for Zach’s Birthday.
Lauren says, “Dark rusty red almost brown color. Earthy aroma of cedar, hay, and tobacco. Medium bodied and smooth. Hint of vanilla and licorice. Decent tannins. A warm alcohol mouthfeel. Leaves your tongue dry but with a flavor of raspberry, blackberry, and cinnamon. A very good dry red. Would pair perfectly with pizza or anything cheesy. 8.5/10. ”
Zach says, “Color is multifaceted: Rich, ruby red in the center of the glass and off-brown and rusty around the edges. The nose transforms over time in the glass. Notes of resinous oak greet the olfactory bulb first only to usher in fragrant whispers of pencil lead, red fruit, and vanilla. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Taste is round; tannin is mild and perfectly balanced with abundant acidity. Finish is light, lasting, and warming - almost like vanilla liquor. Gets better in the glass with each sip. Decant for 45-60 minutes. 9/10”
