Renato Ratti Barolo, 2012.
Lauren says, “Rusty red color. Aroma of cedar, earthy soil, and eucalyptus leaves. Reminiscent of old wood and dried tea. Herbaceous flavor with a hint of smoke and bold tannins that leave your tongue thirsty (but in a good way). Maybe a hint of black cherry licorice. Medium mouth feel but an almost thin texture (if that makes sense). Honestly, I like it for an older, tannic wine. I typically don’t gravitate toward Barolo but would say this is a good 8/10.”
Zach says, "Our first venture into fine Barolo was a delight. I thought —because the wine was so prestigious—that its character would mirror America’s heavy, indulgent cabs; however, this cannot be farther from the truth. This wine has a character that is entirely its own. The nose potent. Notes of black cherry, licorice, Crème de cassis, and acetone. Mouthfeel is thin, but is nicely balanced by fine tannin and captivating acidity. Taste is complex. I get a sense of cooling like mint or eucalyptus. Enjoying with Picadinho a Brasileira. 8/10”
