Chateau de la Roulerie Coteaux Du Layon Chenin Blanc, 2012.
Lauren says, “Dark golden yellow. Aroma of peaches, melons, and orange blossoms. Acidic and sweet. Full bodied. Flavor of honey and sour apples. Nectar-like. Ending is long. Strange taste before the finish. Almost like bitter honeyed almonds. Very different from our usual. May be good if you like Riesling or moscato. 7/10”
Zach says, “Very golden, yellow in the glass. Nose is unique, fresh and complex. I am struck by the similarities between this wine, Sauternes, ice wine, and Riesling. Notes of peach, butterscotch, and wild flowers. Tastes like honey, but with complex malty notes. There is an alcohol bite on the finish, but overall complex, malty sweetness rounds out the finish. Interesting, but I probably wouldn’t drink more than a glass. 7.5/10"
