Ornellaia Le Volte Sangiovese, 2014
Lauren says, “Rusty red color. Woody aroma. Scent of vanilla, hay, and tobacco leaves. Flavor of dark fruits (cherry, blackberry, and cassis), olives, and tinge of green beans. Medium bodied. Acidic with tannins. Decent ending. I do like this wine for it’s simplicity with slight nuance. 7.8/10.”
Zach says, “Thank you to our girl Andrea Immer (the author of a wine book we are using for recommendations) for this amazing wine. The color is rusty, ruby red in the glass. Nose is concise, not overly complex, but complimentary to the wine’s really delightful taste and mouthfeel. On the nose, there are notes of red fruit, sugared ginger, and faint lactic acid (Sauerkraut-like). Medium to heavy mouthfeel. Moderately tannic. Extremely acidic. Finish is balanced and lasting. A great example of an understated, old world red with great charm and wonderful crowd appeal. 8.6/10”
