Domaine Jean-Claude Marsanne Crozes-Hermitage, 2019.
Lauren says, “Garnet. Aroma of herbs, earth, and red fruit. Light to medium bodied. High acidity and tannins. Very tart flavor and green pepper & oak lingers. Leaves me very thirsty without nuance. Not my favorite. 6/10.”
Zach says, “I just don’t think I understand Crozes-Hermitage. It’s not awful. It’s certainly not great. I find this to be all that I find uninspiring about French wine. Thin, short finish, fits and starts of acidity and tannin that provide a disjointed drinking experience. The nose is sharp and distant though not unenjoyable. Notes of black fruit, oak, capers, and sage. Medium bodied. What does seem spectacular are the soft tannins. They flare moments after the initial hit of acidity, but they are pillow soft and enjoyable. Like the inside of a chocolate truffle, these tannins erupt into hedonistic frivolity. Now the lack of finish and mouthfeel obviates these fleeting, though joyous, moments. 6/10.”
