Andrea Scovero Barbera d’Asti ‘Ciapin’, 2019.

From Golden Hour in Baldwin Park.

Zach says, “Plum purple in the glass. Deep color.  Initially, cinnamon and cedar. Then boysenberry. Predominantly, this is a very fruit forward nose. Full bodied. Medium to high tannin. Medium acidity. A lot of energy and vibrancy across the palate, but this wine wants to be taken seriously. He’s structured and potent. I enjoy it, but notice that it is less complex than some. This would be great with pork chops.  Also, not a wine to have alone — really needs food to balance. However, over time, this wine softens. Needs about 45-60 minutes in the decanter. 7.5/10.”

Lauren says, “Plum color with purply rim. Aroma of cut grass/mint and plums. Medium to full body. High acidity. High tannins. Flavor of cola/root beer, blackberries, slight baking spice & black pepper. Needed some time to open up. Does have something unique about it that I can’t pinpoint- it’s the way the acidity is incorporated in the beginning of a sip (the soda-y aspect). 8/10.”
